Yes, and Yes, VMS is being suggested as a replacement for PMS. I think it helps define the acronym. 

While on the subject, the "dispersal phase" is a suggested replacement for the "phoretic phase" when describing mites on bees since phoresy is a non-parasitic association and we know that mites in the dispersal phase can be parasites.  

Webster:

>: the nonparasitic association of one kind of animal (as a larval insect) with another in order to obtain transportation


Remember to always use these terms during inspections because the bees are listening.
