Based on what is known about behavior of clusters under cold conditions
it is doubtful that any modification to the cavity would change the
temperatures inside the cluster at a given ambient temperature. The
cluster is sensing the temperature surrounding it and adjusting
insulation and heat production accordingly. If one does not know the
position of the bees inside a cavity, any inferences on how the bees
are adjusting these variables is likely to lead to incorrect
conclusions.
