Few years ago I was trying to kill grass in front of my hives with a
double layer of blue tarp. I laid out the tarp in the evening after
foraging activity was done. Next day I was surprised/shocked to see how
many dead bees I found on the tarp. I assume most of them were older
bees on their way out, but I'd guess that about 10% or so of the dead
were with pollen on their legs. This was during spring build up stage.
