"Keeping in mind that the majority of published studies are junk at best"
I think this statement is junk and I am trying to be polite to avoid censorship. The reader can fill in the long list of expletives I would like to use to describe such gross ignorance. Probably every single paper and PhD thesis published leaves questions unanswered. Also when the work is started there is some plan or protocol and once the data comes in it is generally obvious that the original plan or protocol could have been changed to the great positive benefit of what was learned. This is simply how science and hindsight works. It is not even junk in a study that totally fails to answer a single question. Such studies that do not answer a single question often lead a person to ask some very real and interesting questions that can be answered with a new study plan. The only junk is falsified data. Falsified data does happen without question. But it is very far from the majority of reports.
