I made up 100 splits in hive bodies about 3 weeks ago and added new queens
from a good queen breeder. I have been checking the new colonies (I got
97% acceptance - during the early part of our honey flow) - and see a fair
amount of 'shotgun brood' with the new queens. Many of these colonies seem
to me moving beyond the scattered brood pattern as they expand the brood
nest. I also see the occasional case of 'snot brood' in the spring now and
requeen those colonies.
It is simple enough to call these two conditions 'idiopathic' but I am
curious about other's thoughts on these two conditions. I hate variability
and these two are variables for sure.
