Keep in mind that the vast majority of colonies in the U.S. are
intentionally exposed to pollen containing a known toxic plant secondary
metabolite -- from almonds, the pollen and nectar of which contain
amygdalin in concentrations theoretically toxic to bees.  Yet the bees
apparently easity detoxify it, since colonies grow well on almond pollen.
