> I buy 10 day cells from a nearby (30 minute drive) commercial queen producer. Lazy but!!!!!!!
Not lazy at all... maybe even smart. The reason I had asked for opinions about one way or another was to try and verify some of my assumptions. Typically, I too buy cells from my mentor and queen breeder (one of the best in our area). Even if I do some OTS queens, I still buy some to requeen a selection of hives. Those hives tend to do really well the following season... from buildup, to solid brood patterns, honey production and good temperament, I have no complaints other than the drive to get them. I also pull queens 24-hours prior and do a formic flash treatment while there's no queen there. My thoughts on bought cells are that I know that good stock is going into the hive (vs wondering what's in my current stock doing OTS).
