In Anne Arundel county, Maryland, we recommend a minimum of 60 lbs honey going into winter (approximately 14 deep frames or 20 medium frames). Northern and western Maryland likely require more due to being near the mountains or having colder temperatures (though I do think the bees here on the Chesapeake burn through quite a bit with fruitless foraging on days like today - 60 degrees). Most of our wildflowers are dead but I see the occasional pollen load so something is in bloom.
