The medicinal use of Eupatorium purpureum (Joe Pye Weed) is primarily in the treatment of kidney stones.  Another Eupatorium is Eupatorium perfoliatum also know as Boneset and is effective for treating the flu when the pain is of an achey nature and felt in the bones or "set in the bones" thus the name.
