*M. plutonius* is specifically adapted to invade the bee midgut tissue.
The bee midgut is only mildly acidic, so the studies of bacteria adapted to
the very low pH human stomach may not apply to honey bee bacteria.  It
would not be too difficult to test this in a lab.
