> NOAA has steadily adjusted "normal"
Human large-scale society, as well as the Green Revolution, has occurred
during a 10,000-year period of unusually steady climate between an ice age
and very warm temperatures and high sea levels.
We have considered this to be "normal," and most everything that we do is
based on our expectation for "normalcy" to continue.
Some of us are feeling the change from "normalcy" more than others.
I'm surprised that the wealthy who own shoreline properties aren't raising
more of a stink about the fact that their homes are going to turn into
artificial reefs for sealife as the glaciers melt.
Everyone talks about adaptation to climate change, rather than following
the adage which states: "if you find yourself in a hole, stop digging."
Those of us who enjoy First-World lifestyles must accept the fact that
we need to live more frugally, as far as energy use is concerned.
And until we implement a carbon tax that reflects the cost to society due
to climate change, we're just kidding ourselves that we're doing anything.
A carbon tax would rapidly encourage innovation and solutions.
