Regardless, screened bottoms were and still are an important part of an IPM program, as they allow one to non-invasively screen for mites, and to make a rough assessment of the mite population.

It's just like a speedometer - it does not, in itself, solve the problem of speeding, but knowing one's speed is clearly a basic prerequisite to not driving too fast.

One Cannot Control That Which They Do Not Measure.
