If I have ever seen this I did not recognize it. What I do see is colonies running fully out of pollen and totally stop brood rearing some springs. This happens when we have a cold wet March and early April so the bees can not work soft maple, aspen and willows which are all in early to late March. Or based on the long range weather forecast mid March to early April this year. Right now this looks like a bad spring.
