Peter, your mayor must have been talking to our mayor.

Some years ago, the municipality decided fireworks were just way too much fun. There was no support for an outright ban, so they instituted a fireworks-by-permit system. The permit is $350. A fee guaranteed to put a fireworks display well out of the reach of most of the residents.

High permit fees are a nice (?) way of saying no without actually taking a stand. 

I really miss fireworks.
