Randy asked: why can the EPA not allow beekeepers to mix their own
oxalic acid, so long as they follow label directions so as not to
contaminate honey or cause adverse effects to the hive?
Randy: I think that making OA mix is considered formulating the product and it is high risk of safety to the person preparing it. When we registered liquid Formic acid in Canada. We had to register first Formic Acid85% as technical. Then, we registered 65% Formic acid for use by beekeepers. The PMRA considered diluting 85% to 65% was of high risk to be done by beekeepers.
The other products that you mentioned and used for household stuff are formulated products. There are not much to be done except application.
The question could also involve liability and safety issues and who is responsible; the supplier, the distributor, the applicator, or the regulator/ government?
