" Knotweed nectar smells good, like butterscotch. "
Two humans can smell the same odor and find what they smell to be quite attractive to one and horribly repulsive to another. To me GR gives the apiary a very pleasant butterscotch odor. On a still evening after a very strong flow I can smell the butterscotch 100 yards away or more. I have had others tell me the exact same odor was awful. All of that makes sense to me as according to some literature I read some years back part of the odor of GR nectar is due to a chemical named pyridine. I happen to think low concentrations of pyridine smell sweet and like butterscotch. Many people find the same concentration of pyridine to be more offensive than skunk. I presume there are some genetic differences that cause the different perceptions just like there are a variety of genetic differences that govern how we taste bitter.
In my honey customer base I find many people prefer GR over spring/summer honeys and about 1/3 who find GR inedible crap.
