Here is how I do it now. I found https://api.meteostat.net/#introduction
Which will provide you with a API key for their service for free that will then give you access to over 30,000 worldwide weather stations.
I created a quick excel sheet using their provided Station list that has the station ID number, city/location, lat/long and time zone and start and end date.
I created a link generator for either hourly or daily data for a set time range. Most Canadian and US Weather Station have both.
The API link generates a JSON file. Instead of downloading the JSON file I instead plug it in this JSON to Excel converter and instead generate a CSV or Excel that I then just download/cut/paste into my templates.
https://www.convertcsv.com/json-to-csv.htm (Use the enter UTL option to paste in the link generated from the spreadsheet).
Once you get the hang of it it is actually quite quick...
Here is a link to my excel link generator -https://drive.google.com/open?id=1ea3MHmwoFI4SqfGOwW1wlfAIKAUe6RVo
The 1st tab is a look-up list of all the available stations. I use the filter "contains" for finding specific cities or lat / longs to get close to where I am searching....
You get 200 API calls per hour which is more than I will ever need...
