If weather conditions are not ideal, I've seen bees forage on virtually
anything.
For example: the bees foraging on sawdust. Last year it was an outright
nuisance, I had to dump the saw dust, but the bees attacked it for "pollen"
so aggressively, that I was worried they could harm the lifespan of the
bees.
They'd be in the sawdust from 10AM to 4PM on warm winter days.
In the natural environment, powders are not common, especially those
powders that appear during the winter-
I'm assuming that the bees see our powdery substances and get tricked
biologically into assuming anything that is a powder, typically has *some *
protein.
