Thanks for the correction Scott.  Upon further research, I see that an
immune response is actually necessary at least to deal with the nonspecific
cytotoxicity and hemolytic activity of melittin.

But I'm still not clear that we should use the term "immunity" to bee
stings.  Isn't what happens actually an "acclimation" to a potential
allergen.  And couldn't what we beekeepers practice by getting stung
regularly be called a form of "exposure therapy"?
