I think in a natural condensing colony like a ZEST the microclimates are different and the humidity levels inside the cells may also be different. I hope that Kraus & Velthuis are at least partly correct because if they are, bees running higher humidity levels in condensing colonies, like trees and other person-made colonies, may have some effect on varroa reproduction. Obviously, as Randy points out varroa can reproduce with high ambient temps and high humidity but do we know if are varroa struggling during those times.
