Beeks here in Newfoundland do not remove *all honey* in the fall. We overwinter in two deeps ideally with stores of ~120 lbs. I take honey off the first week of September. What is not brood in the deeps is normally loaded with nectar-based honey. Following the removal of the honey supers, we "feed the snot out of bees" with 2:1 sugar syrup. Empty comb in the deeps is back-filled with sugar syrup "honey." We feed until they won't take any more which can be the end of October (e.g., syrup in top feeders gets too cold).
I just got off the phone with one of our entomologists. He has an inventory of ~60 aphid species in the province. But we have zero data regarding honeydew. I can see another research project on the horizon.
