If one had a larger hunk of metal (a larger "thermal mass") this would help to stabilize and slow the process of heating, and prevent an "overshoot" of temperature.
But, more mass would mean slower cycles between hives, as it would also cool down slower.  There was a vaporizer marketed with a precision thermostat, but no one wanted to pay the extra cost.
