Perhaps not that bent....in spite of sunny statistics, honey bees are in decline. While there are more honey bees than ever under managed hives, please remember that in Canada at least, we have seen our feral population of honey bees vanish, presumably due to Randy's Apocalyptic Horsemen: Varroa, agri-sprays, forage degradation and disappearance, rapid transfer of pests and diseases via moving bees.
Hives under management as a single measure does not reveal just how hard the beekeeper has to work to keep those hives healthy and productive, nor how often those hives need requeening/replacement in a season.
