I had an interesting offline from one of the others here.
The comment was made that the conversation on the mask did not belong on bee-L.
I could not disagree more, and respect Allen's ability to bring it in.
Some may note I vanished for about 2 years? When I came back, I perused the headers. They are the same as when I left. The honest truth is there is very little new in the bee world worthy of conversation. The internet has allowed us all to see this information on our own very quickly. That’s quite different than when the list started.
This place is unique and cool. While we wander off topic we do several things that keep people like me here.
We make new friends and acquaintances, Jim And I could not be more different, and yet I would call us friends, there is no way that would have happened without conversations that veered off course. I have never been to NY, and would rather shoot myself in the foot than spend a night at the MET, and I doubt Jim will ever go noodeling with me. Jim is just one of several. Ther are people here I have meet in person and become great friends with, more than just bees.
I myself also get challenged to put thought to words, and get challenged back. Being realistic and getting both a reality check, and benchmarks in skills is pretty nice. I would love to be able to communicate my point like people Like Dick, or Jose.
These conversations happen on topics much more varied than just bees. There is only so much math we can apply to bees, and waxing poetically about the proper way to wire foundation is pretty dry.
If we are going to stick to just bees, then there will soon be only two types here, the newbie's looking for information, and the old codgers who only need is to teach.
We have the freedom to ignore any threads we don't like, as well as the freedom to chime in on other issues like politics and mask, as long as we can be respectful.
Just my opinion on the conversations.
Kudos, to all the moderators past and present, and I hope we continue to get encouraged to stray a bit.
Charles
