The northeastern portion of the US just got a blizzard.

Colonies with an upper vent still have 2 inches of snow covering the bottom
entrance.  Colonies *without *an upper vent have melted the snow that had
covered the front entrance.

There's clearly still heat escaping the bottom entrance from colonies
without an upper vent.

I wonder how the magnitude of heat loss through the bottom entrance
compares with that of a *modestly *sized upper vent.
