Hi Gary & All
We have a second large honey flow in mid-September so my honey supers are on until first frost in late Sept early Oct.
As soon as the supers are off I start feeding 2:1 sucrose syrup. Goldenrod & Aster honey is not considered good winter feed, but some does end up in the brood box. The University of Guelph 40km from me & most large beekeepers barrel feed but I use in hive feeders. They don’t feed in the spring but I do first with fondant then 1:1 sucrose.
There was a discussion here on Bee-L a few years ago about singles.
