A beekeeper friend from Russia, as a boy watched his beekeeping mentor take
a taste of honey from a comb and inadvertently swallow a bee and get stung
in the throat. The boy watched the beekeeper die on the spot. Very
traumatic. I found this out when, years later, as he was buying some nucs
from me, he watched me scoop some honey on my finger to taste. He grabbed
my arm to stop me before I could reach my mouth.
Take home lesson: it's wise to be very careful with open drinks in the bee
yard, or when tasting honey from combs, since it may be dangerous to get
stung inside the esophagus.
