>Certainly not a scientific study, but a year ago I had a bothersome floater in one eye that had lasted for a couple of years.  

I have a large floater in one eye that has been there for at least 20 years.  I was told by my consultant that they drift slowly downwards and then stick to the bottom of the eye.  Hasn't happened yet!
