I wonder if the beekeeper can influence the process enough to take the starting egg size factor out of the equation?
If you fiddle with your queen raising environment such that queen cells are lavishly well fed, you generally get much bigger queens...if nothing else they are easier to find.
It would be interesting to compare the outcome of larger eggs vs. grafts lavishly fed vs. larger eggs lavishly fed.
