Note that the study cited only talks about mitochondrial genetics.  As the number of mitochondrial genes are only about 0.1% of the total genes in a honey bee I see no reason at all to expect any correlation what so ever between mitochondrial genetics and any thing that we can see or measure in honey bees.  I do not think the cited study in any way supports the quoted statement.
