as a follow-up to the comment on inbred mice:
1921
Using a pair of black mice from the Granby farm, Clarence Little develops the C57BL and C57BR strains (from a mating of Miss Abby Lathrop’s stock). To start this strain, Little bred female mouse number 57 to male mouse number 52. The result was a black mouse soon designated C57 black. Research Associate Priscilla Lane calls the C57BL/6J "the mouse of choice" because not only is it a good breeder and long lived but it also has a low susceptibility to tumors and few unfavorable phenotypes.
2018
University of Michigan officials decided that a science building will no longer be named for Clarence Cook Little. Little was a visionary genetics researcher and university administrator in Maine and Michigan in the first half of the 20th century. He also was outspoken on a host of controversial topics and a proponent of Eugenics, which advocates for controlled human breeding and race isolation.
comment: Little proved that inbreeding can be used to "purify" a genetic type. This has been of great value to scientists. Unfortunately, he had in mind applying the principle to humans, which is stupid and evil.
