As others have pointed out, the efficacy of any varroacide depends upon the
active ingredient reaching a mite -- either by contact, ingestion, or vapor
penetration or inhalation.

With formic, Jim's description of all the physical details involved
applies, as well as Jerry's demonstrations of how well bees can control the
air flow within the hive.

With Apivar, Apistan, and Checkmite the strips need to be distributed
properly and at proper dosage for efficacy.

For oxalic, my very preliminary findings are that distribution is very good
by dribble application, perhaps not so by vaporization.  I am currently
setting up distribution tracking experiments to compare the distribution
results for the various application methods.
