That's interesting! Here in Dorset, UK, my old school, Thomas Hardye's (re-founded in 1569), recently did a study of local ticks in conjunction with Exeter University. They found that about 12.5% ( 1 in 8) carried Lyme Disease.
The ticks tend to occupy areas with acid soil upon which bracken grows and a couple of my apiaries have bracken close by so I try to remember to wear bicycle clips as much as to keep ticks from climbing up my legs as bees!
