This was from last winter, I haven't really found anything to explain what the round looking cells are. There are a few Nosema spores in the picture for scale.
These came from dead bees that I collected 50ft + away from the hive vs the one that died at the entrance. Most had small abdomens.
My guess is the small size is from a nutritional stressor (lack of pollen or poor quality) when these bees were being raised. I got the idea from a talk by Heather Mattila at the "National Honey Show" on pollen needs.
No idea what the globes are... Planning on looking for more this winter. I had a bunch of bee samples in the freezer but my wife threw them out :)
