In common hives, where the combs are not movable, the evil announces itself by the disagreeable foetid odor issuing from the entrance, and which resembles that of putrefying glue or animal matter. 

The least troublesome and most efficient mode of arresting the disease, is immediately to sacrifice the colony in which it makes its appearance, stifling and then burying the bees, and burning up the hive with its contents.
