> Extracts or smoke of e.g. male fern (Dryopteris spec.), nasturtium (Tropaeolum spec.), tobacco (Nicotiana spec.), walnut (Juglans spec.) Contradictory results; some extracts (tobacco) or smoke (walnut) may cause significant mite mortality or lowered population density; sometimes mites are not killed and may recover. 

One has to assume that tobacco is not very effective against mite, or else we would all be using it.
