Years ago, I had a couple hundred colonies to requeen. I already had established singles with new queens, on each inner cover...escape hole closed, entrance to the rear. As it was already late August, I needed help finding the old queens. The parent colonies were strong and it was going slowly, and it was getting late. I made a rudimentary shaker box with an excluder with an empty hive body sitting on top. Wow!
So now, I have one with a wood bound excluder screwed to the bottom of a good body. It has become part of my standard kit and I wouldn't leave home without it.
