Yes, it has been developed and used commercially in Australia under
the "Apithor" tradename. The point is that you can entomb fipronil to make
it safe. Although, I've got no idea how you would do that with a box and
even if you could keep contamination below bee toxicity levels you still
have honey contamination to worry about. There is a limit of detection
residue limit (0.01mg/kg) set for honey in Australia to account for the use
of the pesticide in this situation.
