Zach's Mite Zapper works by heating a specially developed brood frame, essentially one with heater wires. He was one of the first to try to control varroa by raising temperature. As per overcoming the bees ability to fan and cool, we have first hand evidence of just how good they are at keeping a constant temperature in the core of the brood nest and of controlling and re-directing hot and cold air.
As per my swarm observations - I am simply reporting what we see - the heat spike usually lasted 20-30 minutes, went as high as 45 degrees C as I remember.
