Hypothesis 1: What Aaron said - the actual product is not what's described.
Hypothesis 2: Someone got stuck with too much inventory and is selling at a loss either to raise immediate cash, free up space or reduce holding costs.
Hypothesis 3: Selling as a loss-leader to drive brand recognition for other products on Amazon.
Hypothesis 4: Selling as a loss-leader to drive links and to game the search engine optimization optimization products sold elsewhere.
Hypothesis 5: Human or computer error.
The cynic in me says hypothesis 1 is most likely. The realist says it's probably hypothesis 5.
If the price rises to near-market fairly soon, that would support 5. If the product gets listed as sold-out quickly, that supports 2. If the product takes longer to sell out but the reviewer ratings decline, that will support 1.
Curious to see how it turns out.
