> As far as taking care of mites. I expected my hives to die first year. I expected my bees to die second year. I expect my bees to die this third year.

So much of this depends on location. In some locations keeping bees alive is not that hard. In others, it can be a real challenge. This winter we had the lowest winter kill I have ever seen. Last year we had the highest I had ever seen. Why? I don't really know, though I suspect viruses caused the mass die-off in the fall of 2016. Quite possibly the viruses died with the bees, so this year was much better. As far as what I did, I did the same as I always do, treat for mites when the levels warrant treatment.
