The proper term would be land conversion, which clearly results in habitat
loss for species adapted to what was growing there prior to the plowing of
all existing vegetation in the field into oblivion. Herbicide use and
mowing in some areas keeps the original species from growing back.
I realize that in your area, Charlie, that bees thrive in ag land. But
that is NOT the case in other areas that I've visited or that have been
studied. I suggest that you take a look at Matt Smart's studies of lands
in the Dakotas. He works with large beekeeper Zac Browning, who can
corroborate.
