We have finished harvesting our honey for the year and are starting our varroa control. We are using vaporised oxalic acid and you may be interested in the results for our backyard hive.

The total drops we measured after administering the acid were as follows.

1st day 858
2nd 3rd 4th days 761
5th 6th 7th 8th days 949

The total drop for the August 29 to September 6 period was 2568.

This was a strong, productive hive which has produced well over 200 lb of honey. It seems that varroa is a serious problem in urban hives and should be dealt with as soon as possible.

Best regards,

Donald Aitken, Edmonton. Alberta.
