I had to drive down to Wilmington, North Carolina - a 2-5 hour drive -
today to teach a coastal water quality workshop. The eastern terminus of
Interstate 40 is in Wilmington and the road goes across country to Los
Angeles, California. As I was exiting the eastern end of Interstate 40 I
saw a fully loaded semi truck of hives, netted and strapped down, driving
onto I 40 headed west. I feel fairly certain these bees are headed to
almond pollination in California, some 2,600 miles away on the West Coast
of the United States. A 38 hour drive straight through. Amazing on many
levels if you think about it.......
