"I'm puzzled why the 24 hour drops would decrease with treatments on."
Ants removing dead mites from the boards over nine days resulting in lower per day drop counts?  If mites are removing dead mites such that they only last on the boards for a day your three day and nine day total counts are really one day counts.  Compound that with weather differences that impact ant activity and you could rationalize any count you got.  Of course if ants can not crawl over your sticky boards this idea is nuts.
