Seth, when we did a field test comparing alcohol wash to sugar rolls to ambient drop on mite counting sheets, I noticed that the bees seem to die instantly.
Thus I use rubbing alcohol now when I have to euthanize a colony. It is the most quick, reliable and merciful method I have found: https://herewebee.wordpress.com/2017/08/18/when-needs-must-euthanizing-honey-bee-colonies/
It is easy to test! Give some bees a quick swill in rubbing alcohol (once it is back on store shelves...) and report back. I can't imagine the bees survive, but I'd be interested in knowing what you find!
Regards,
Janet Wilson
