Hi Peter,
Sorry for late reply. For my little operation I am fairly convinced that most of my honey comes from Sweet clover (melilotus) and the Trifolium clovers. I am miles away from Canola production, and Ag in general. Some hay and cattle pastureland around.
I am in close proximity to the North Saskatchewan River and all summer the gravel bars and shorelines are covered in Sweet Clover. They bloom from mid-June til a killing frost.
The honey is very light and slow to crystallize.
I’m not a honey pig so whatever the bees get in August-September they keep. August is mite treatment time so no issue. Didn’t have to feed last Fall.
My home and apiary are near the intersection of the Aspen Parkland and the Boreal Forest; West-Central Alberta, approximately 115W 53N, near the town of Drayton Valley.
Best regards,
Brian Tamboline
