Would it be a reasonable recommendation to use mite drop response as the
primary tool of monitoring?
That is to say - treat on a schedule, maybe starting in late July depending
on how fare north, with either Amitraz or OAV and use the mite drop
assessment as guide for Tx repeat or not.
Assuming Apivar first, repeat would not be needed for 5 - 6 weeks. Use an
OAV and post treatment count as indication of repeat or not. Repeat weekly
as long as drops indicate the need.
If Apivar is not used, treat weekly as a means of simplifying a schedule w
OAV - as long as mite drops suggest.
What may not show in the BIP data about winter losses is what effect queen
age or quality has on survival.
