I was just referring to the restricted case of resumption of brood rearing in winter, when day length and changes are imperceptible. Further, it may be that the long days of summer set the annual periodicity and allow honey beew to anticipate the coming season. That is, they may be able to gauge the amount of time elapsed since the previous spring and aim for the following one, in order to be able to issue a swarm at the optimal time for survival (following Seeley's work, previously cited).
