And a follow on to Bill's thought about plastic vs wood (for frames), how about those beekeepers who use entirely plastic bee boxes (BeeMax, Lyson, etc.)?  Or in my case, during the winter when I have dummy boards made of foam insulation to reduce the interior cavities of standard wood boxes to nuc-box dimensions.  I have the exposed edges of the XPS material covered in aluminum HVAC tape to prevent chewing, but again that's not a wooden material either.
